Audible Discernment

Audible Discernment is a musically-driven podcast created by three guys in the deep South. Originally born out of a game meant to encourage music sharing, their friendship has blossomed into weekly meetings in front of three microphones and the occasional six-pack.

EP 21: BYOBestOf2016

It's finally grand prize time for AOTM, and the boys talk a year in music, their fave Christmas tunes, and even take a shot at Instagram Live in a clip-heavy episode that's second only to their last re-recorded episode in execution. Been a great first season with everyone who listens, and we'd love to hear from you!

Thanks to a corrupted SD card, we’re late, we’re tipsy, and to be honest, we don’t remember anything that was talked about before editing (we actually may have repeated a story we've shared before). Trey introduces our friend @sometimesclever, who introduces us to a #mindjobbing "Friends" lesson in evil. All #fancore sound effects brought to you by the evening's Black Nails.

EP 18: Soapbox Heroes

Robbie gets sentimental about the Beach Boys, while Trey & Jason showcase uninvited Beatles fandom, Jason fake laughs after making a minimum of 2 terrible jokes, Trey fanboys over hip-hop, and all 3 get a bit nostalgic talking about Dunder Mifflin. "Isn’t it ironic…dang, you beat me to it."

Trey and Robbie hash out the direction of country music, old, new, or alt.  Where did he come from, where did he go?!?  Jason sits this one out, living his own real-life country song.

The boys interview music label owner, exceptional dog-walker, and the 4th most famous person from Athens, Alabama -- Corey Flegel from This Is American Music. The conversation journeys from attempting to define "Southern Indie" to the impossibility of marketing to soccer moms.

Ep 12 - AOTM - August 16'

A young child says to his mother, "Mom, when I grow up I'd like to be a musician." She replies, "Well honey, you know you can't do both."

It's a voting week! We decide who had the best album for July, and we also submit our albums for August. Robbie throws out an amazing Could Have Been a Classic. Jason adds more vinyl to his collection and Trey finally phones it in. It's a good one y'all.

This week on Audible Discernment: Trey's drunk, Robbie's reminiscing bygone eras, and Jason is playing with his Squirtle. In other words, just a typical day at the Levee Studios.

EP 10: AOTM - July '16 (one take/no edits, mobile edition)

It's time to vote for June & submit for July!  The boys do this one in one take while rolling down the road.  Robbie's in the driver seat (sorry!), Jason's holding the mic (sorrier!), but Trey's finally back (sorriest!)  We also touch on Jason's bluegrass background, creating another wide-but-white palette of music; Robbie makes an off-hand Eddie Vedder joke, and Trey brings up the rear literally & figuratively.

The boys have a special guest sit in for Trey and talk about yard sales, becoming "food-cultured" in the South, dreadlock Belieber hating, and musician eBay lists. Rounded out with beach trip playlist picks just in time for Summer, mixed in with gentle disagreements, butter beer at Disney World, and interpretive dances by @bethanygrace311.

EP 6: Stay Weird, White People

EP 4: Are The Good Times Really Over?
Reminisce with the boys as they pontificate over Nik-L-Nips, Merle Haggard, Robbie’s curmudgeon-ish hatred of certain modern bands, “walk on” music for Golf, and a tangent on fast food and potato chips that lasts too long.

EP 1: Take Me to the Pilot

After many months of takes and retakes, we finally publish our first episode!

Welcome to the first episode of Audible Discernment*. This week we discuss political candidates’ favorite bands, our monthly submissions, taking your pants off at Cracker Barrel, the musical black hole that was the 80’s, and what’s left of Jason’s CD collection.

Trey’s dog makes an appearance, as well as his crappy, squeaky desk chair that he bought at a thrift store.

*This week was recorded over Skype, and frankly, the sound quality sucks. Future episodes will be better. We promise.
